The Federal Government has mandated that all Federal websites and/or websites containing Federal information comply with Section 508 Regulations. AAA Website Design & Hosting can design or redesign your website to comply with Section 508.

Section 1194.22 Paragraphs (a) through (p)
Criteria Supporting Features Compliance Explanations
(a) A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content). ALT and/or long description tags are provided for images. Meets criteria by providing a text equivalent.
(b) Equivalent alternatives for any multimedia presentation shall be synchronized with the presentation. Synchronized text and/or audio descriptions will appear on the screen. Meets criteria by providing equivalent alternatives for multimedia presentations.
(c) Web pages shall be designed so that all information conveyed with color is also available without color, for example from context or markup. Avoid color which is tied to decision making. Meets criteria by not requiring perception of color for decision making.
(d) Documents shall be organized so they are readable without requiring an associated style sheet. All content will be organized and readable without the associated style sheet. Meets criteria by designing content in an organized fashion.
(e) Redundant text links shall be provided for each active region of a server-side image map. Only client side image maps shall be used. Meets criteria by not using server side image maps.
(f) Client-side image maps shall be provided instead of server-side image maps except where the regions cannot be defined with an available geometric shape. No server side image maps will be used. Meets criteria by not designing server side image maps.
(g) Row and column headers shall be identified for data tables. Table summaries, caption, headers, scope, id and axis labels will be used appropriately. Meets criteria by allowing screen readers to identify the correct data cells to read in an organized manner.
(h) Markup shall be used to associate data cells and header cells for data tables that have two or more logical levels of row or column headers. Complex tables will utilize THEAD, TFOOT and TBODY to group rows, COL and COLGROUP to group columns and "axis" and "scope" attributes to describe relationships between data. Meets criteria by establishing relationship among data cells.
(i) Frames shall be titled with text that facilitates frame identification and navigation. We avoid the use of framesets, if used, they are titled in a logical order. Meets criteria by identifying frames and how to navagate them.
(j) Pages shall be designed to avoid causing the screen to flicker with a frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. We control motion frame rates to avoid screen flicker. Meets criteria by avoiding screen flicker problems that could effect people with photosensitive epilepsy.
(k) A text-only page, with equivalent information or functionality, shall be provided to make a web site comply with the provisions of this part, when compliance cannot be accomplished in any other way. The content of the text-only page shall be updated whenever the primary page changes. A text-only page will be automatically generated for any page that can't be designed to 100% Section 508 compliance. Meets criteria by ensuring a 100% Section 508 compliant website.
(l) When pages utilize scripting languages to display content, or to create interface elements, the information provided by the script shall be identified with functional text that can be read by Assistive Technology. Javascript will not be utilized to display essential content or interface elements. Meets criteria by avoiding data content that can't be accessed by assistive devices.
(m) When a web page requires that an applet, plug-in or other application be present on the client system to interpret page content, the page must provide a link to a plug-in or applet that complies with 1194.21(a) through (l). 1194.21 (a) through (l) compliant links to applets or other applications that require a plug-in will be provided on every page that requires them. Meets the criteria by providing links to Section 508 compliant software.
(n) When electronic forms are designed to be completed on-line, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues. All form elements are marked with "label" and/or "name" attributes. Meets criteria by ensuring that assistive devices can match category data and input fields in forms.
(o) A method shall be provided that permits users to skip repetitive navigation links. We include skip links in every page that contains repetitious navigation and/or external links. Meets criteria by allowing users with assistive devices to skip to the main content area.
(p) When a timed response is required, the user shall be alerted and given sufficient time to indicate more time is required. Alerts are used with time required responses that allow user to indicate that more time is required. Meets criteria by allowing user to request additional time for response.
Note to 1194.22: The Board interprets paragraphs (a) through (k) of this section as consistent with the following priority 1 Checkpoints of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0) (May 5 1999) published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium: Paragraph (a) - 1.1, (b) - 1.4, (c) - 2.1, (d) - 6.1, (e) - 1.2, (f) - 9.1, (g) - 5.1, (h) - 5.2, (i) - 12.1, (j) - 7.1, (k) - 11.4.
